Having marked her first foray into the fashion world with the hugely successful House of Harlow 1960 jewellery collection, Hollywood starlet and mother of two Nicole Richie has expanded into a complete ready-to-wear range for 2010, Winter Kate by Nicole Richie, named after her daughter’s two middle names.

Bringing a completely different vision to her premier collection of a dreamy, carefree bohemian silhouette launched in US Spring 2010, her new collection is tougher, sleeker and more sophisticated, yet it seamlessly merges the flowing style that is the signature look of Winter Kate.
 
Winter Kate draws its core inspiration from the dramatic costume designs in the movie ‘From Hell’, a story about Jack the Ripper starring Johnny Depp set in Victorian London. Paying tribute to that moody era, Richie has included cigar jackets, capes, vests and full skirts in luxe fabrics, paired back with floaty dresses, the Winter Kate staple.
 
Moving away from the light silks and cottons Richie had a penchant for in her past collection, the latest range introduces heavier textures such as rich silk velvets, sumptuous crepes and wool, which are complemented by winter hues of grapes, reds, indigoes and terracotta.
 
There are also influences from infamous 70’s rock stars such as Debbie Harry and Stevie Nicks - both whom Richie states as her style icons – in the form of the Jasmine Cardy and smock dresses, giving the range a modern retro feel.
 
Richie’s genre spanning, multi-era Winter Kate collection successfully combines clean, sleek, and edgy lines with her signature vintage style.
